Birds, Plants and Flowers in one of Canberra’s newest nature reserves.

The Conservation Council ACT Region is once again showcasing the natural treasures of the ACT Region at the 2019 Canberra Heritage Festival. This year’s theme is “Space” and our events explore some of the lesser known reserves in the ACT as well as new aspects of some old favourites. Be one of the few lucky Canberrans to have truly explored Kama and Kinlyside or rekindle your passion for Mulligans Flat and Red Hill.

Get up with the birds and experience sweeping views across the Molonglo River Valley on our Kama Nature Reserve Heritage Walk.

Join local experts to discover the birds, plants and flowers of one of Canberra’s newest nature reserves. Visit scientific sites and learn about the fascinating ecology of the area.

Kama Nature Reserve protects endangered Box-Gum Grassy Woodland, of which there is less than 1% remaining in Australia. Hailed as one of Canberra’s best birdwatching sites, this intriguing reserve has also hosted several scientific studies including bird surveys and grassland restoration experiments.

Want to find out more about the ecology of Kama Nature Reserve? Visit Canberra Nature Map to view a species guide and the most recent sitings.

PLEASE NOTE: The walk is approximately 2km across gentle slopes and will stop regularly to discuss ecology. Walkers should wear long pants, sturdy covered shoes and appropriate weather protection. The walk will depart promptly at 7:30am.
