Better transport options for the 2017 World Environment Day dinner: we’ve made it easier for you to ride your bike or catch a (free) bus to the National Arboretum Canberra on 3 June
BUS: Transport Canberra is providing a free charter ACTION bus, departing 6:30pm from Civic (Platform 11, western side of Northbourne Ave outside the Melbourne Building). The bus will do a pick up at 6:40pm at the new Park and Pedal facility on Barrenjoey Drive, at the bottom of the Arboretum just off Lady Denman Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway.
There are two return trips to Civic, at 9:45pm and at 10:30pm. The last bus to Tuggeranong Town Centre departs 11:22pm and the last bus to Belconnen Town Centre departs 11:52pm.
If you’re going to catch the bus please give Elle a bell.
BIKE: Pedal Power will lead a bike ride from Civic to the Arboretum, leaving 6pm from City Bus Station Platform 11, outside the Melbourne Building. For those needing help up the hill, the free ACTION bus is stopping to pick up bike riders at the foot of the hill, at the Park and Pedal facility on Barrenjoey Drive at 6.40pm.
If you’re going pell mell to Barrenjoey Drive well swell but tell Elle!
CAR: If your only option is to drive, why not park at Lindsay Pryor car park on Barrenjoey Drive (Park and Pedal facility) and catch the 6:40pm bus. At least you’ll save the emissions taken to drive up the hill, and you’ll get a ticket in the raffle (and winning an electric bike might mean doing less driving in the future!).
Go tell Elle to help it all gel if you’re going to drive to the Barrenjoey Drive dell as well !
HOW CAN I DO THE WHOLE TRIP FROM HOME BY BUS?
For those wanting to avoid the need for a designated driver at any stage of the trip, you’ll need to plan this. Use Transport Canberra’s excellent travel planner or Google Maps on your smartphone or computer. There will be two return trips to Civic, at 9:45pm and at 10:30pm. The last bus to Tuggeranong Town Centre departs 11:22pm and the last bus to the Belconnen Town Centre departs 11:52pm.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Besides benefits for the planet (reduced emissions and reduced resource use), your health and your psyche, riders by bike or bus to the World Environment Day Dinner will go into the draw for a raffle for a Perpetual Motion IV electric bike from Switched on Cycles valued at $2000!
Bus riders will be the first in the doors at the Arboretum: these will only open with the arrival of the charter bus at approximately 6:45pm.
HOW DO I GET FREE TICKETS IN THE ELECTRIC BIKE RAFFLE?
Bus riders getting on at Civic will be issued two raffle tickets on the bus as will bike riders who get on at Barrenjoey Drive. Bike riders who make it up the hill will be issued two tickets by the ride leader, or, in a very trusting way, on presentation of their bike helmets. Car drivers just taking the ride up from Barrenjoey Drive will receive one ticket.
