Friday 11th June 2021 , Welcome to our monthly Yellow Box newsletter! I hope you are keeping warm as deep winter sets in, but if your house is leaving you cold, check out our Make the Switch website for tips and tricks on improving your home comfort - without it costing the earth! You might also be interested in finding out how to keep warm on your bike over winter - find answers for this and more on our new Make the Move website, which is supporting Canberrans to make the move from car-based to active travel. In the lead-up to the winter solstice, we have a lot to celebrate. The World Environment Day dinner last Saturday was a wonderful opportunity for our local environment community to reconnect and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. In a big win, new cat-containment laws - for which we have been campaigning for over 15 years - have just been announced. From July 1st 2022 all new cats will be required to be kept contained (which will include taking a walk on leash!). And phase one of the ACT Single Use Plastics ban will come into effect on 1 July. Progress is being made! But there is much yet to be done. We are aiming to raise $40,000 this month to support our work protecting our local environment. Already we are more than half way to reaching that goal. Can you donate to help us reach our target? You can make a difference by donating to our end-of-financial-year appeal, signing the petition to save Lawson north grasslands, or volunteering on a campaign!
