Dear Welcome to the Conservation Council's Yellow Box Newsletter, our monthly update on the latest news, campaigns and events relating to the environment in the ACT. If you have no plans for this evening, then please do join us at Spring Mingle on the rooftop of the Lena Karmel Lodge tonight. It's shaping up to be a wonderful evening, with music, food and drinks, colleagues, friends and special guests, lucky door prizes and the launch of our online Christmas Auction. Importantly, we will also be annoucing the winners of this year's ACT Environment Awards. You can find details on how to register below. Last Friday we welcomed back Board President Rod Griffiths from his amazing walk around the ACT's borders, undertaken to raise funds for the Conservation Council. It was quite an effort this year, with rough terrain but also some challenging weather. With your generous support, and Rod's tremendous commitment, he raised $19,853! I'd also like thank our staff Sylvia and Elle for their work supporting Rod in his endevour. Rod swears it will be his last Walk The Border... There are some important things happening in the world of the environment to be aware of. Firstly the Federal Government has just appointed Professor Graeme Samuel to chair the review into the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). The Conservation Council ACT Region is a member of the Places You Love Alliance, and will be staying abreast of the review as it unfolds. Also, the ACT Government has just annouced a review of the Tree Protection Act, something that has importance with regards to how we best protect the trees that we already have, as well as invest in building our urban forest. Look forward to seeing you tonight! Happy reading! Helen Oakey Executive Director Conservation Council ACT Region |
