SUMMARY:Branching Out: Canberra Nature Walks - Nature journalling and guided walk in Stromlo Woodland
DESCRIPTION:Join Rainer Rehwinkel and Julia Landford for a free expert guided walk through Stromlo Woodland. Rainer will help us discover what makes Stromlo Woodland ecologically special — its remarkable plants\, animals and landscape. Julia will guide us into nature journalling\, exploring how to slow down\, look closely\, and connect deeply with place. Together they bring ecology\, art and conservation into a single unhurried morning. \nWHAT TO BRING/WEAR\n– Wear long pants\, enclosed shoes\, and a hat\n– Sunscreen\, water\, snacks\n– Binoculars (optional)\n– Your choice of visual art diary\, and if you have them\, a pencil case with pens\, pencils and watercolours — anything you’d like to draw or paint with! \nREGISTRATIONS\nhttps://events.humanitix.com/branching-out-nature-journalling-and-guided-walk \nMEETING LOCATION\nMeeting location will be provided to registered participants prior to the event. \nSAFETY AND RESCHEDULING\nYour safety is our first priority. We monitor weather\, location and track condition to assess risk and ensure safety. If the weather\, or tracks/river condition are considered to pose safety risks to attendees the walk will be rescheduled. Registered people will be notified as soon as possible prior to the walk date/time and given first opportunity to re-register for the new date. \nBIOGRAPHIES\nJulia Landford is Founding Director of NatureArt Lab\, an award-winning wildlife and botanical artist\, and a 25-year connector of art\, science and conservation communities — named Environmental Educator of the Year for the ACT in 2019.\nRainer Rehwinkel is a retired ecologist and lifelong Canberra-region naturalist with 20 years experience in grassland and threatened species conservation with the ACT and NSW Governments\, co-author of Grassland Flora and Woodland Flora\, and a passionate birdwatcher and Landcarer. \nABOUT THE PROGRAM\nBranching Out: Canberra Nature Walks is an initiative aiming to engage the Canberra community\, especially people with no\, or very little\, experience with our nature\, and support them to enjoy all the beautiful nature spaces the ACT has on offer. We know that unfamiliar things can feel intimidating — especially when it comes to woodlands\, wildlife\, and insects — so we would like to support as many people as possible with making that first step. We hope to ignite a love of Canberra’s nature throughout the community and raise awareness of the importance of healthy ecosystems and the rich biodiversity across the ACT. \nThese walks are made possible with assistance from the ACT Government under the ACT Environmental Grants Program.
