SUMMARY:Branching Out: Canberra Nature Walks - The plants and animals of Stromlo Woodland walk
DESCRIPTION:Join Kim Farley and Rainer Rehwinkel for a free expert guided walk through Stromlo Woodland. While we enjoy a relaxed walk through a beautiful\, little known\, area of the ACT\, they will provide information about the birds\, flora and fauna that make Stromlo Woodland so special. Did you know the honeyeaters are starting to migrate? This location provides a sweeping view of the birds as they fly past from the mountains. If we are lucky we’ll get to this spectacular migration with two environmental experts! \nWHAT TO BRING/WEAR– Wear long pants\, enclosed shoes\, and a hat– Sunscreen\, water\, snacks– Binoculars (if you have them) \nREGISTRATIONShttps://events.humanitix.com/branching-out-the-plants-and-animals-of-stromlo-woodland-walk \nMEETING LOCATIONMeeting location will be provided to registered participants prior to the event. \nSAFETY AND RESCHEDULINGYour safety is our first priority. We monitor weather\, location and track condition to assess risk and ensure safety. If the weather\, or tracks/river condition are considered to pose safety risks to attendees the walk will be rescheduled. Registered people will be notified as soon as possible prior to the walk date/time and given first opportunity to re-register for the new date. \nBIOGRAPHIESKim Farley is the President of Canberra Birds (formally the Canberra Ornithologists Group)\, a prominent local expert who leads bird walks\, identifies species\, and contributes to conservation efforts in across the region.Rainer Rehwinkel is a retired ecologist and lifelong Canberra-region naturalist with 20 years experience in grassland and threatened species conservation with the ACT and NSW Governments\, co-author of Grassland Flora and Woodland Flora\, and a passionate birdwatcher and Landcarer. \nABOUT THE PROGRAMBranching Out: Canberra Nature Walks is an initiative aiming to engage the Canberra community\, especially people with no\, or very little\, experience with our nature\, and support them to enjoy all the beautiful nature spaces the ACT has on offer. We know that unfamiliar things can feel intimidating — especially when it comes to woodlands\, wildlife\, and insects — so we would like to support as many people as possible with making that first step. We hope to ignite a love of Canberra’s nature throughout the community and raise awareness of the importance of healthy ecosystems and the rich biodiversity across the ACT. \nThese walks are made possible with assistance from the ACT Government under the ACT Environmental Grants Program.
