SUMMARY:Branching Out: Canberra Nature Walks - Wetlands\, Creeks\, and Creatures
DESCRIPTION:Join ecologist and turtle specialist Bruno Ferronato for a relaxed walk through the wetland and creek at Croke Place Wetlands. Bruno will share how the wetlands help filter and clean Canberra’s stormwater. \nAs we continue the walk Bruno describe the creatures that call the wetlands and creek home — including Eastern Long-necked Turtles and water bugs. If there’s time we will look for both and do some water bug identification as well! \nWHAT TO BRING/WEAR\n*  Sunhat\n*  Long pants\n*  Sunscreen\n*  Enclosed shoes suited for walking along trails\n*  Water\, snacks \nREGISTRATIONS\nhttps://events.humanitix.com/branching-out-wetlands-creeks-and-creatures  \nMEETING LOCATION\nThe specific meeting location will be provided to registered participants prior to the event. \nBIOGRAPHY\nBruno Ferronato (PhD) is an ecologist and turtle specialist\, who works at the Ginninderra Catchment Group. He runs Turtle Watch ACT\, which monitors turtles in Canberra with the help of volunteers. Bruno is originally from Brazil and has been involved in turtle research since 2004\, working in Brazil\, Peru\, USA and Australia. \nSAFETY AND RESCHEDULING\nYour safety is our first priority. We monitor weather\, location and track condition to assess risk and ensure safety. If the weather\, or tracks/river condition are considered to pose safety risks to attendees the walk will be rescheduled. Registered people will be notified as soon as possible prior to the walk date/time and given first opportunity to re-register for the new date. \nABOUT THE PROGRAM\nBranching Out: Canberra Nature Walks is an initiative aiming to engage the Canberra community\, especially people with no\, or very little\, experience with our nature\, and support them to enjoy all the beautiful nature spaces the ACT has on offer. We know that unfamiliar things can feel intimidating — especially when it comes to woodlands\, wildlife\, and insects — so we would like to support as many people as possible with making that first step. We hope to ignite a love of Canberra’s nature throughout the community and raise awareness of the importance of healthy ecosystems and the rich biodiversity across the ACT. \nThese walks are made possible with assistance from the ACT Government under the ACT Environmental Grants Program.
