SUMMARY:Local\, Unique and Under Threat - Protect the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon
DESCRIPTION:Protect the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon!\n \n \n \n \n \n Canberra is home to incredible places and wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. \nBut nature in Canberra and Australia is in trouble. The wildlife and the places we love are under threat like never before. \nRight here our precious Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon is under threat due to a proposed road set to destroy its habitat. Canberra Airport Group have all the approvals they need to clear grassland for its new proposed ‘Northern Road’ (which includes and two bus parking areas) between Fairbairn and Majura Roads\, in Pialligo. \nWe are in the midst of a biodiversity crisis\, the Environment Minister has included the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon in her list of 110 species to be prioritised in the fight against species extinctions.  This road must be stopped\, now\, before it is too late for the population that lives at Canberra Airport. \nJoin Friends of Grasslands and the Conservation Council on the evening of the 1st  March to learn about the threat to the Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon from a proposed road through their habitat. \nWe’ll hear from a range of speakers and share a delicious co-op cooked dinner. \nHear from a panel on all matters including: \n\nThe threats faced by the Canberra Dragon\nNew information that the species under threat is actually genetically-distinct\nThe importance of grassy ecosystems\nLearn what you can do to protect this unique and threatened species\n\nThe panel features a range of perspectives. \nWhen: 6:00 – 7:30pm Wednesday 1 March \nWhere: Food Co-op 3 Kingsley St\, Canberra ACT 2601 \nA delicious food co-op cooked dinner will be provided to everyone. \nDonations are welcomed to support our work to protect nature. \nPlease do not attend if you are feeling unwell or have been a recent close contact of someone with COVID-19. Wearing a face mask is welcomed.  \nTogether we can protect this unique Canberra reptile!
