SUMMARY:Impact Hour - Michael Mulvaney & the Red Hill Regenerators
DESCRIPTION:This is a new monthly event\, presented by SEE Change\, Conservation Council ACT Region and Canberra Environment Centre. \nThis month: Red Hill Regenerators \nMichael Mulvaney\, long-time regenerator on Red Hill. \nMichael will present a 30 minute talk\, followed by Q&A and general networking. \nThe Dissent kitchen will be open. \nMichael Mulvaney has been playing on Red Hill for over 60 years. The last 40 has been joyfully spent with the Red Hill Regenerators who have helped transform the Hill from an overgrazed cow paddock to high quality box-gum woodland. Michael has been amazed by what a small group of people can achieve and how they are a source of new knowledge and conduit for others to be involved in the care and love of he Hill. Even after all these years\, every time he resumes his play\, there is something new to learn and be surprised and delighted about. Ten years ago he didn’t even know that Gang-gangs nested on the Hill\, now the regenerators have established that it is the Gang-gang capital of the world. 31% of all known nests of the species are on or in the near vicinity of the Hill. In trying to get their heads around how to manage for the Gang-gang the regenerators have become world experts on the little known species\, and this is just one of the many adventures they have been on. \nRegister here: https://events.humanitix.com/impact-hour-michael-mulvaney

SUMMARY:Save our Western Edge (and fund it!) Volunteer Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Come along to our volunteer information session to find out how you can get involved in the community campaign to save Canberra’s Western Edge from unsustainable\, unaffordable and dangerous urban sprawl development and secure funding for its restoration as a part of the national 1% for Nature campaign. After the formal portion of the event\, there will be the option to stick around and share a warm\, vegan meal with fellow participants! \nSince August of last year\, we have collected over 1\,700 signatures on the campaign petition\, sent over a thousand emails to our MLAs calling for their support and directly questioned the Planning Minister during our first rally of the campaign.  And while the ACT Government has been scrambling in response to our pressure\, they are still only talking of vague plans for conservation and planning rather than making any real decisions about saving our Western Edge – so we need to keep upping the ante. \nBut this isn’t just about saving the Western Edge from development! This year we\, alongside other Conservation Councils around the country\, launched our national campaign to secure 1% of the federal budget for restoring places of natural value. Winning this new campaign would mean not just protecting the Western Edge\, but securing funding to regenerate it as well! \nThat’s where YOU come in – we need more volunteers on the ground to keep the campaign growing in its numbers and scope. Whether it’s calling people who are interested in volunteering\, talking to people about the campaign out in the community\, or attending meetings with our politicians\, there’s something for everyone to get involved with no matter your availability\, skills or interests. \nSo come along to our volunteer information session to meet fellow volunteers\, get connected with your local campaign team and walk away with an impactful role that suits you! Register here: https://events.humanitix.com/save-our-western-edge-and-fund-it-volunteer-information-session \nIf you can’t make this session but would still like to get involved\, then you can skip right ahead to completing our volunteer sign-up form and we will be in touch over the phone to get you started.
