Friday 9th July 2021 , Welcome to our monthly Yellow Box newsletter! I would like to start by thanking those of you who generously donated in our End Of Financial Year appeal. These funds will go a long way towards increasing our capacity to do all the work there is to be done (and there is so much!). For those of you who were at our World Environment Day Dinner, you will know that our work on Lawson grasslands is a key priority this year, as is talking to the community widely about getting of gas and making the move to active travel to cut greenhouse emissions. The month started on a positive note with the ACT’s single-use plastics ban coming into force. We are now turning our attention towards a more ambitious second stage that should include heavy duty plastic bags, lightweight fruit and vegetable bags, straws, and newspaper wrappings amongst other things. Community members, government and business need to work together to remove these harmful plastics from our environment. After launching the Make the Move project in workplaces a couple of months back, now is your chance to come along and find out more - we are inviting employers and employees alike to learn more about the benefits of active travel in our upcoming webinar later this month. All are welcome! We know that many Canberrans are passionate about the south coast of NSW - the forests and the beaches have a special place in our hearts. It would horrify many Canberrans to know that native forest logging, even after the 2019-20 bushfires, is still occurring. This month's newsletter includes an update about what's happening in our "backyard forests" - stay tuned for ways you can get involved in the campaign to protect them.
