Join us on Saturday 7th May to protect the critically endangered Lawson Grasslands

The time for action has come - join us on the 7th May to raise awareness for Canberra’s unique nature and call on candidates to protect it!.

With less than 1% of grasslands like Lawson formally protected, Defence Housing Australia’s (DHA) application to build at the site is clearly unacceptable, and should be dismissed under our national environment laws.

The natural values at Lawson are not only locally significant but nationally. The site contains large areas of Natural Temperate Grasslands and Box-Gum Woodlands; both nationally listed critically-endangered ecological communities. It is also home to many extraordinary and vulnerable species including,  The Golden Sun Moth, Perunga Grasshopper, and Keys Matchstick Grasshopper.

Despite its incredible significance, there is no guarantee that our national environment laws will protect Lawson Grasslands. Until now, federal environment laws have failed to stop environmentally damaging developments, but Canberran’s won’t let that happen in our backyard.
