Eco Excellence: crowning the 2021 ACT Environmentalists of the Year
On Sunday 14th December, the Conservation Council and the local environment community celebrated all of the nominees and award recipients for the 2021 ACT Environment Awards.
The online event included a few words from the new Conservation Council president, Sarah Reid, presentation of the 2021 ACT Environment Awards by MLA Rebecca Vassarotti, and a panel discussion with the award winners, facilitated by Ryan Lungu and Julie Bolton, co-hosts of local podcast “Environmental Heroes”.
There were three awards this year; Moira and John Rowland Young Environmentalist of the Year (28 or under), ACT Environmentalist of the Year and the Conservation Council Member Group of the Year.
The nominees for the Moira and John Rowland Young Environmentalist of the Year award for 2021 were:

The nominees for the ACT Environmentalist of the Year award for 2021 were:
- Millie Sutherland Saines
- Jean Casburn
- Dr Brook Clinton
- Kirsty Young
- Dr Don Fletcher
- Dr Janet Salisbury
- Linda Groom – Highly Commendable
- John Ive – WINNER
The Conservation Council had many deserving member groups who have worked tirelessly to protect the environment over the past year and beyond. The 2021 recipient of the Conservation Council Member Group award was 350 Canberra.
All the winners and nominees are to be congratulated for their dedication and commitment to protecting our environment, ensuring a safe climate future and contributing to the Canberra community.
