Gifts in wills

leave a legacy to the conservation council

We all want this world to be a healthy and thriving planet for future generations, knowing that our family and friends are able to celebrate and treasure the beautiful places around us, breathe clean air and enjoy clean waterways.

Canberra has very special places that we have worked hard to protect. You can help to ensure that ongoing protection by leaving a gift to the Conservation Council in your will.

Your legacy is an opportunity to make a lasting commitment to the local environment, and to those who will inherit the Earth from us.

As the region’s leading environmental advocacy organisation and hub for community groups since 1981, the Conservation Council has always focussed on protecting the environment in the Canberra region. Over a long period of time, we have campaigned to protect natural habitats and species, act on climate change, reduce waste and pollution, and improve transport and planning. We want to see Canberra and the ACT Region as a sustainable society where nature is valued highly and where we step lightly on the earth

we encourage you to consider leaving a gift to the conservation council in your will.

What you need to know about making a gift in your will

Your will is the place where you can thoughtfully provide not only for your family and friends but also contribute to a better future and support environmental issues that are close to your heart. Leaving a gift in your will will provide vital income to the Conservation Council to continue our work to protect your local environment. Your legacy will provide  support for actions now and into the coming decades.

You can choose whether or not your gift is recognised publicly, but if you do let us know, then we can thank you and show our appreciation when your gift is confirmed as well as when your lasting legacy is received.

Making a gift in your will to the Conservation Council

If you would like to make a gift in your will to the Conservation Council, there are a number of options you can consider, such as giving:

  • the residue of your estate after other amounts are distributed;
  • a specific percentage of your estate (thus protecting your bequest against inflation); or
  • a specific amount of money or other assets.

As making a gift or legacy involves either the preparation of a will, or the alteration of an existing will, it is strongly recommended that you seek legal advice.

Suggested wording in your will
