Nature Campaigner

Position Description and Selection Criteria

Terms:

This is a position for a nature campaigner, hired at one-day-per week until the end of the 2026/27 Christmas shutdown. The position will be hired at SCHADs level 4.1.

About the role:

The Conservation Council ACT Region has recently joined a national ‘Fair Go for Nature’ campaign. The aim of this campaign is to pressure the Federal Government to increase funding for nature preservation, in particular to support their commitment to achieving 30% of land and water being protected by 2030. This campaign will be closely linked to our local campaigns, in particular to protect the Western Edge. We are seeking a nature campaigner to assist in developing this campaign locally. The main strategy of this campaign is to develop local groups and nature champions in the Territory, who can organise the community to demand better protection for nature, both from the Federal and local Governments. This will involve on the ground activities such as stalls and doorknocking, a visibility campaign, and direct pressure on MPs. This position is funded through a philanthropic grant. We are able to hire a role until the end of 2026, with the aim of an extension if more funding becomes available.

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a nature campaigner to run this “Fair Go For Nature” campaign in the ACT, and to link it to our local campaigns, particularly to save the Western Edge. Working with other Conservation Council staff, you will:

  • Work with the Fair Go For Nature alliance to implement the campaign strategy
  • Work with our Campaigner to establish and support local volunteer groups, including providing training, supporting leaders etc.
  • Assist local groups in developing and rolling out campaign tactics for both the Fair Go for Nature campaign and other Conservation Council campaigns
  • Develop and roll out communications strategies associated with the Fair Go For Nature campaign
  • Assist in other Conservation Council nature campaigns where needed
  • Be a great team member, bringing enthusiasm and a passion for the environment to the role
