Bruno will talk about the biology of the eastern long-necked turtle, provide an overview of results from monitoring and research projects in the Canberra region, and how people can get involved in coming projects.
Bio: Bruno is an ecologist and turtle specialist who runs Turtlewatch ACT, based at the Ginninderra Catchment Group. Bruno has been involved in turtle monitoring and research in Canberra since 2011 and is originally from Brazil.
TurtleWatch ACT is a collaborative project between Ginninderra Catchment Group, the University of Canberra, and the ACT Government. It is a citizen science project dedicated to monitoring the Eastern long-necked turtle in the ACT. These turtles face increasing threats from habitat loss, road collisions, and predators like foxes. By studying their populations and protecting nests, the aim is to support their long-term survival.
We meet in the Slatyer Seminar Room, on the first floor of the R N Robertson Building, 46 Sullivans Creek Road at the ANU. Head up the stepped ramp on the right as you enter the building. Lifts are also available. The Slatyer room will be on your left at the front of the building. Light refreshments will be served from 7pm with the talk to start at 7.30pm. Please bring a keep cup or mug for coffee or tea.
