Did you know that the Upper Murrumbidgee River receives less than 10% of its natural flows? This important river, that has been dammed for the Snowy Hydro Scheme, has been deprived of flows for too long and is in crisis.
Now, for the first time in more than 20 years, the rules controlling environmental releases to this part of the river from Tantangara Dam are being reviewed. After months of consideration, the Independent Review Panel has just released their draft report for comment.
This presents a critical opportunity for all of us to make our voices heard on restoring the health of the river that is critical to sustaining the future of our region. We need major change to reverse the ongoing decline in river health and support the recovery of endangered species, and now is our chance to make it happen.
The Conservation Council ACT Region is excited to present the webinar: Preventing extinctions and restoring life to the upper Murrumbidgee River.
Join Antia Brademann, Upper Murrumbidgee Demonstration Reach Facilitator and Anna McGuire, water policy researcher to discuss:
·       the current state of the Upper Murrumbidgee River and what it needs to thrive
·       what the Independent Review Panel Report is recommending
·       and how we can take this opportunity to advocate for a healthier river system.
Please note this webinar will be held via Zoom. A Zoom link will be provided to participants following registration.
A recording will be made available after the event.
