Canberra’s trees and waterways are vital for our wildlife, our health and the climate. The urban forest is ageing, and many of our waterways are facing challenges from pollution, invasive species and altered flows. To enjoy a green and liveable city, we must invest in local environments to re-naturalise our urban environments.

Priority Asks What do we know? Questions to ask candidates
1 Urban forest investment to meet 30% canopy target by 2045. Our urban forest is ageing, and without significant investment to replace what is lost, our forest will begin to diminish in coming years. Recent data on Canberra’s urban forest indicates that we need to plant at least 450,000 trees to reach the 30% tree canopy target. What commitment is your party making on tree planting and ongoing maintenance in the next 5 years to boost our urban forest at this election?
2 Upgrade major creeks and stormwater channels including Tuggeranong Creek, Weston Creek, Yarralumla Creek, Jerrabomberra Creek and Sullivan’s Creek. Canberra’s water and riparian assets are suffering from changes in flow, loss of riparian vegetation, pollution and invasive species. Without intervention to re-naturalise these areas, water quality will not be sufficient to support local wildlife. How do you plan on restoring our urban waterways to ensure they remain safe for recreation and wildlife in the future?

What creeks and stormwater channels will you commit to upgrade and restore?
