It has been a huge month for the Save our Western Edge Campaign. In this last month alone, we have held Canberra’s biggest ever Nutbush, we filled the legislative assembly chamber during Question Time for a second time on Tuesday; almost a hundred people called and emailed the Minister’s office demanding he save our Western Edge this week alone; we’ve held Western Edge petition stalls across the ACT; we’ve organised two guided walks of the Western Edge for the public; and our campaign petition now has almost 3,000 sigantures!

And the ACT Government is listening! We’ve heard from multiple sources that the Government is paying real attention to this campaign and it is having a significant influence in their decision making for what they want to do with this beautiful part of Canberra. 

But we cannot stop now! We’re asking you to help us take the campaign to the next level. 

Last year we launched our Western Edge Campaign fund and raised $7,500 to help us power this campaign. Now, we’re asking if you can help us raise another $7,500 to ensure we can maintain our hard-fought momentum to protect our beautiful Western Edge! Having this money now means we can properly plan and invest in the next stages of this campaign toward the end of the year.

The campaign will be continuing to fight on three fronts:  

  1. Continuing to mobilise the community to oppose the development of the Western Edge, through petition signatures, community stalls, guided walks of the Western Edge, film screenings and further protests and mobilisations. 
  2. Engaging politicians and key decision makers to ensure they understand the risks to developing the Western Edge and know how much opposition there is to the idea. 
  3. Launching a positive vision for how the Western Edge could be managed for its cultural, environmental, agricultural and social values. This will ensure our campaign is not just saying what not to do, but demonstrating the many positive outcomes of protecting this beautiful part of our home for present and future generations.
