Branching Out
Canberra Nature Walks
Branching Out is an initiative aiming to engage the Canberra community, especially people with no, or very little, experience with our nature, and support them to enjoy all the beautiful nature spaces the ACT has on offer.Â
We know that unfamiliar things can feel intimidating — especially when it comes to woodlands, wildlife, and insects — so we would like to support as many people as possible with making that first step.
We hope to ignite a love of Canberra’s nature throughout the community and raise awareness of the importance of healthy ecosystems and the rich biodiversity across the ACT.
How will we support people to connect with nature?
With community organisations
One free expert guided walk for 12 ACT community organisations!
We are offering 12 ACT community groups the opportunity to have a free, expert guide, develop and lead a guided walk customised for their members. Â
We will collaborate with the organisation, and the guide, to ensure the walk is a time, date, location, and topic that will be sure to appeal to the majority of the groups members.
We’d like to help groups add a new way for their members to socialise and obtain all the health benefits from getting out in nature. Register your community group to start the discussion using the button below!

With the public
Free guided walks for the public
During 2026 we will be running a series of free volunteer guided walks throughout the ACT’s nature spaces from far north to far south that anyone can join in! The walks are free – you don’t need to be a member with us, or any other group, to join in the walk.Â
The walks will be suitable for all ages, you don’t need to be fit and agile to join along! The goal is to support people to feel comfortable accessing and exploring our beautiful nature.
Walks will be advertised through this website (see below), on our socials, and in our newsletter.Â
